Thanks for the tip. Just been to the Nissan website and can't find the chat link. I tried registering for YOU+NISSAN and ended up in an endless loop in step 3. Tried two different browsers too.

Seems to have disappeared and replaced by "Click to Call" (back).
Not sure if link will work for others.
You may need to turn off any pop up blocker on browser.

I then asked them

Thank you for your reply
Is this the oil that my dealer will use? I have heard that dealers use Castrol
magnatec. On doing a bit of research it seems that magnatec does not meet your requirements.
Can you confirm that dealers do not this oil and use the appropriate oil that conforms to ACEA 4

Regards

I've raised with Castrol and they say this type is OK for our QQ's, and only available to the trade: GTX 5W-30 C4.

However, spec sheet for this makes no mention of Low Ash or SAPS compliance,
so have asked them to confirm. The Sulphated Ash figure on sheet seems to be quite low, but
have nothing to compare against.

Hmm not much use to us then if only available to the trade? We surely need an oil that is freely available to us mere mortals.

UPDATE:

The specification is C4 ( Renault RN 0720 ) with a 5W-30 viscosity– this is a low SAPS spec, specifically for this engine . Interestingly Nissan genuine oil suggests it’s a C3 and C4, which is interesting as you can’t actually formulate an oil to meet both specs ( phos levels I think )

But the C4 spec was introduced by Renault for their engines so if you use a C4 spec, then nothing to worry about. In fact, DPF issues are more to do with poor quality fuel and not getting the engine hot enough to regenerate the DPF ( lots of short runs is bad for diesels ) – not very often the oil is a problem cause at all, but I would suggest the Castrol TX Professional C4 5W-30 is exactly correct.

Kind regards
