Complete system failure of auto stop start

Hi, I have a 65 plate diesel qq 1.5 ntec. This weekend while driving my car switched itself off resulting in no steering or anything. Got to side of road safely. Managed to restart it, numerous warning symbols and message saying system failure auto stop start. It's at Nissan at the moment. They say it needs new engine loom and an alternator. Anyone else experience this. Find it quite worrying in a car only 18 months old with just 11,000 miles. Was serviced just 4 months ago.
