I've checked it and the Front one does switch it self off after a few minutes ..... not sure about the one in the centre console i haven't tried it.

Looking into this issue myself I would definitely say you have the old head unit that DOESNT have android play. Easily identifiable by having an SDcard slot and the two middle right hand buttons having dual functions whereas the latest unit theres no SD slot and those buttons have only one function....
