Bit late but when you change the barrel, you definitely do NOT need to change ecu or anything else. I've replaced/repaired quite a few of these (usually keys that wont pull out of ign) . You can also relocate the OBD socket.
This will make it difficult for the thieving toe rags to plug in there device that allows then to steel the car.

We charge (forum members) £120 for a remote key. £140 if its a proxy/smart key.
Not failed on a Nissan in 15 years.

This is a common problem on Nissans. Part of the barrel gets worn and the keys get jammed in the ignition Garage's or main dealers charge £400 + to fit a new ignition barrel but then its extra to code in the new keys We charge £130 in total to repair the ignition barrel (or £100 if the customer take...
