My car wasn't affected, at the time I sold it before the problem arose.
£12k is more than other people have been quoted - usually around a still unacceptable £8k.
In your situation I think you'll have to go down the route you've suggested.

It needs someone who's familiar with both versions to advise but it's possible they're the same.
