Are you saying the poles aren't long enough?
Have you pushed the tailgate open to the full extent then pushed the tailgate button to memorise it?

I have one on a a Kadjar, and the electrics are similar (read same). The control unit is connected to the vehicle can bus which monitors the state of the vehicle. The dash button only works when the vehicle is stationary or the drivers door is open. The tailgate control interfaces to the OE push but...
