This 'episode' led me to google hand car washes and wheel cleaners - it's put me off using them somewhat, which is a nuisance as they're very convenient!

Thanks for the advice. Bought myself some new caps so wheels looking much better now.

I may go back to the car wash with a spare cap and ask them to spray it with the wheel cleaner they're using. If it discolours again I can show them.
