Re: 1.2 DIG-T - Oil loss

Assuming you have the same issue we've all had, I would be surprised if they didn't fix it with a "goodwill warranty extension". Not to say it's a guarantee (I'm just a guy on the internet), but I'd say it's a likely shout.

Re: 1.2 DIG-T - Oil loss

Interesting that you got Nissan to take ownership of it from the start. I phoned them as a first port of call for my own issue and they wouldn't entertain the possibility of doing anything unless I took my car to a dealer and paid for a diagnostic first.

Re: 1.2 DIG-T - Oil loss

Your situation doesn't fill me with confidence, if I'm honest. That said, I do about 5k miles in 6 months so I should know fairly quickly if the problem reoccurs which will give me time to get it back to Nissan before the car is five years old.

Re: 1.2 DIG-T - Oil loss

Working through the flowchart posted a few pages back it looks like they've done it by the book, and that engine replacement is the recourse when the compression test values are wildly out of alignment. In cases like mine the timing chain is the end of the flow.

Re: 1.2 DIG-T - Oil loss

I can certainly ask them. Would the compression test identify such a thing?

Re: 1.2 DIG-T - Oil loss

My dealer performed a compression test which came back okay, if that means anything at all.

Re: 1.2 DIG-T - Oil loss

Update: My rattle has been diagnosed as the timing chain (was pretty confident of that already). Nissan have agreed to pay for the replacement, as I rather suspect they know the problem is theirs and want it to go away. I guess I'm going to need to be very vigilant with oil levels for the rest of t...

If you can live with the rattle.
I can't. It drives me figuratively insane.

Re: 1.2 DIG-T - Oil loss

The service history is a bit of a red herring no amount of “Nissan” stamps in the service book is going to alter the problem that was introduced when the engine was manufactured Indeed, my concern is that they make it an issue anyway. Like you say, it shouldn't make any difference when the fault li...
