The only issue with fitting them behind the rear view mirror is that's camera for traffic sign recognition etc is? Is it possible to get battery operated ones (so I don't have to deal with wires trailing everywhere) that sit on the dashboard?

Thank you both for your recommendations. These might be stupid questions, so I apologise if so, but do the dashcams sit on the dashboard or do they need to be attached to the windscreen?
