I have a petrol model , and have no noise.

How much fuel in the tank ?
The pump is mounted in the tank and maybe isnt seated correctly and making contact with the tank itself which could amplify the noise of the pump
Is the noise there all the time , or after a while.

yep diesel is the way forward for good mpg. I find mine ok on the motorway , but better at 40mpg off the motorway. anything over 65mph and thr consumption drops a lot , and the cold weather does not help as the diesel has a thermostat that opens at 83degrees. I wonder how it would be with a thermost...

Would suggest to me that it maybe close to being worn out.

Nissan Customer Services ( Stuart ) and the dealer are now involved.
Doubt much will get done , even myself , in my capacity with another car manufacturer seems to be advising them of the problem and the fix.
