1. Nissan dumped the Apps on the head unit idea due to security and international use issues.
AND/OR
2. The head unit could not handle multiple Apps and other services running together.
We now have Android Auto/Car Play which to me appears to be a Smartphone interface mainly. Interim Fix. Google Apps not allowed to interface with the vehicles ECU/NATS systems. Hacking and high possibility of CAN Bus abuse.
The next step is Android Automotive OS which allows Google Apps onto the head unit and to run there. I suspect this separates the Car from the Apps. Near Air Gap. Partitioning if you like but no doubt requires significant change in the design of the electrical/electronics systems. No doubt e-cars have paved the way here but a worry when we see a Smartphone initiate parking/retrieving a car.

Hi Black_Roger , thanks for the card with the new maps. The one with the car was veeeery old and to get a new one was a rip-off in the nissan website. Card was received quickly and worked like a charm. It also resolved a problem whereby I had to new the postcode to search for an address, the new maps had an update for the navigation software that updated this and now I can search for a street on the entire country.
