Only some cars qualify for updates - MapCare was introduced in May 2016. Hence my 2015 car wasn't eligible but I managed to persuade the dealer to update the card nevertheless since the maps as supplied were 2013...

In any case since MapCare is a version behind, they'll still be supplying the V2 card won't they? (2016 maps if I recall correctly)

Be careful getting a new card for the J11 at the moment. The cards usually come out in Oct/Nov. V3 came out in Oct 2017. V4 was due out in Oct 2018 but for some reason is still not available.

The map data on the v3 is (c) January 2017, so well over 2 years out of date now.
The map data on the v4 card, when it ever gets release, is (c) January 2018 so will be over a year out of date once it comes out.

Having said that, as there appears to still be no news on the v4, then if you only have the v1/v2 then the v3 will still be much better than what you have.

From what I remember v1->v2 had hardly any changes in the road network near me. v2->v3 had significant changes.

No, that's the v2 card. The v3 card has been out 18 months, and the v4 card should be out sometime soon as described above.
