About 6 months ago my 2007,petrol automatic developed a whurring noise coming from engine. This noise happened when pressing on accelerator and also when car in neutral when pressing accelerator. I took it to the dealers who said gear-box problem- about £2000-3000. I then took it to an independent transmission garage who said they would expect louder knocking sound but that they could replace parts and clean it out for about £1800. Out of curiosity I took it to a third garage who said it was not the gear box but sounding like a pump or something but they didn't know. So....I took it to 8 garages in one day, 3 said gearbox problem and 5 said not because it was the wrong sound for that! After 6 months driving everyday, today the whurring sound has started to sound a bit squealy too. There has been no loss of power or acceleration. No knocking. Please help! I am in Gravesend, Kent.
