Thanks Geordieman - definitely going to avoid CVT from what I've read. Looking at 6 speed autos, wondering how significant dpf problems are. Will do more research. Thanks for the heads up!

It will mainly be my partner using it to ferry kids around and she only has an automatic license. I'm not a massive fan of auto tbh, I like 'proper' driving! It's a necessity for us though....

Wasn't there a normal 6 speed auto box on some mk1 versions?

...
Up to 2010 their was just the diesel 6-speed torque converter auto as I've mentioned. I'll have to check later brochures for the 2011-2013 Qashqais

And what of the issues with the DPF, are they solved by a good blast down the motorway, or is that something completely different that I'm thinking of?

...
I've never had a DPF diesel but I think any DPF can give rise to problems eventually

There isn't generally a problem with the 6-speed torque converter is there? Or is there? Not to the same extent as cvt though, surely?

Thanks gloucester - appreciate the input!

My (limited) understanding is that DPF problems occur when the car in question is used on short, urban journeys where the exhaust doesn't get hot enough to burn off the captured particles. Over time there is a build up and the DPF gets blocked. This is solved by regular blasts down the motorway as far as I am aware.

Thinking a deisel automatic transmission could be the way forward, if indeed QQ is the way forward. Watch this space, I guess...

Thanks again for your help.

The later ones were the same arrangement

For replacement of the DPF system because it was beyond regeneration
