In Croatia... On Saturday 26th 2019 my wife was driving Nissan Qashqai+2 (2013) and the hood flew off on the highway at a speed of 120 km/h (62 mph), hit and broke the windshield... she and her mother were scared to death.

The weather was perfect! Sunny and windless.

Luckily she was driving in the right lane and managed to brake and move to the stop lane and the hood slipped forward one the road in front of the car. The hood is completely ripped off the car!!!
When we talk to people what happened, they think we are lying or doing drugs... incredible and sick at the same time.

The roof rails prevented the hood from flying behind the car and fortunately no one was killed.

This 'accident' was immediately reported to the local dealer and also to the Nissan authorised representative in Croatia... we have a problem because they have not shown any serious interest in resolving this case. They apologized via email for the inconvenience but we already got the impression that this is not their priority issue.

If anyone has heard or witnessed of more such cases with Nissan Qashqai vehicles please contact me via email (alenpetric@gmail.com).

Alena, well it certainly looks like your Family had a lot of luck and it is great they are well. These Bonnets are really heavy and many members have installed the Strut Kits to ease the opening. As Gel mentioned I and he have been around some time on this Forum and I also have never heard of this problem.
When closing our QQ J11A Bonnet it has to be raised slightly and then dropped to get it closed properly - I always double check. The Hinges, Mechanisms and Safety Latch are pretty strong, but could it be that the Bonnet was not closed correctly and the wind just picked it up. It will be interesting to hear what the Nissan or Insurance answer is - Dave 😏

A few hours before my wife took the car i drove my son on swimming training, went to marketplace... did not open the bonnet, did not notice anything strange while driving (no sounds etc...). I really do not know what more I could think or say about this strange/bizarre situation. I found some product managers emails on Nissan Europe webpage and I'm going to ask them for help. Thank God nobody got hurt!

Welcome to this forum

You never check the oil level then, or the water, brake fluids - or top up the washer fluid?

I'm just really surprised you reckon the bonnet hadn't been opened for five months.
