starting problems

Hi, I have a 2007 acenta qashqai 2l diesel.... I am having problems starring it, it will only start after i lift the bonnet and pump the black pump thing near the fuel filter... I have fitted a new fuel filter, then it runs fine, but when stopped and left for a while it does the same again, the pump thing is supposed to be hard, but mine is soft till I start pumping it!!

Any help would be appreciated.

I presume you fitted the pump the right way round and filled the new filter with fuel before fitting?

Thanks for the reply....,,,, I have had it up and running about since I change filter... I have just had another look, and when i was pumping the primer bulb I noticed a little tiny hole in it where diesel was squirting out. I am guessing that this is the problem!!! Would you agree??

I’m no mechanic but it could possibly be sucking air into the fuel line.
