I want to service my Qashqai.
Oil definitely needs replacing, colour is black, oil level is OK though.

Nothing in the manual or service book says anything at all.
All it says is a first service is due after 1 year or 12,500 miles. I only scan read.
(Current mileage is 12,800 and car is 66 plate. Just thought I would mention. + No record of any previous service done on the car.)

What should I have serviced and what intervals and what mileages?
Any dates I need to put in my diary for future service requirements?
(Or will the car tell me when things are needed? I used to have similar on my old BMW, messages would just popup.)
How do I reset service settings in the car after service?

Spark plugs: I've been told to replace with platinum tip ones as these will last a lifetime. Any comments on this?

EDIT: how much oil do I need to fill up? One video on youtuve says 4.3 litres? Assuming different for different models? I have a 1.2L petrol engine.

I've searched on youtube, there seems to be lots of videos. I can't seem to find a tick box list of things needed, so any answers would be appreciated.

Thanks.

oil and oil-filter every 6mths (i do quite a few miles) (most people will change it yearly but it don`t hurt to change in more often as it`s the blood of your car.
the amount of oil you need should be around 4.6ltrs
air filter change yearly (again it depends on how many miles and pollution in the area, and it`s easy to check to condition of the filter to see if it`s clean or not)
pollen filter yearly.
brake fluid every 2 years replace (i always get my local garage to do that for me.
spark-plugs replace every 3yrs (not sure what type you would need as i don`t have a petrol car)
in the settings on the car menu you`ll find how many miles you have next for service it`s easy to reset after your oil has been changed

MrMatrix, did you get a “Qashqai Owners Manual” with your QQ ? which is normal, because on page 8.2 > onwards there is a very good Guide for the Servicing / DIY actions. See below for example the Page 8.2 - Dave 😉

I didn't realise you'd bought a car without a service history. It should be having its FOURTH service shortly!

That's the same as one I have so I won't publish mine.

However Nissan have changed it since then and the pollen filter is now changed yearly.

Thanks for the replies guys.

@andy2019, brake fluid every 2 years? Someone told me not to worry about it, it lasts a lifetime 🙂
I'm guessing that's not quite right. Dumb question: what happens if one does not replace brake fluid?

@gloucester. No records of service. The car only had 12k miles on the clock.
But... if I were to get done... is there anything missing from what @andy2019 mentioned?

@Gel Is that a pic? I can't actually read. Where do I get for my car?
Can you send a printable version?

@DaveBerlin, yes, I read that page before posting 🙂
Clear as mud. The advice from the other guys is much better!

MrMatrix, the problem is that the Manual information is long and it needs a read to understand the points. A Check List is better if you can get hold of one. My days of Servicing are over now it’s down to Nissan, but knowing what is done on their Check List is still helpful - see if this helps Dave 😉

As a general rule, it is recommended to change the brake fluid once a year or every two years. Of course, this also depends strongly on the way of driving and the mileage. The reason for this measure is that brake fluid is very hydrophilic, that means it tends to absorb water.
When you don't change your brake fluid, your car's braking capabilities suffer greatly for it. This can happen if the brake fluid manages to reach its boiling point under operation, especially if that boiling point was artificially lowered through moisture contamination.

Here is a US Attachment on Brake Fluid that might be worth a read :

A. It's a PDF scan

B. You receive it when you have a service

C. You get the service information with the car

D. Here's the version I have - another PDF scan

Alternatively for anyone with a 1.2.

Remember this is before Nissan required a yearly pollen filter replacement regime:
