Hi all,
New to forums, I've got a 20 plate n connector petrol 1.3.
I've noticed that the engine temp rises quite rapidly, roughly 2 minutes to get half way, does anyone else have this? It doest overheat never moves from halfway just never known on other cars for the engine to reach halfway that quick

I'm the exact opposite... never seen a car take so long for the temp gauge to start moving. I can drive 4 to 5 miles down a motorway at about 70 and it only just starts to move. That said, once moving, its operation is totally normal and also never more than half way up.

Mine is starting to move after about one and a half miles - just as I get onto a dual carriageway.
Up to about a quarter after another mile or so as I get onto the M56

1.3 has thermal management and closes off the block off from the rest of the system until it's at operating tempreture.
Diesels are thermal efficient and take a while to warm up. That's why they got thermoplungers in diesel engines to help the system heat up as if you wait for the engine to do it your blowers gunna take a while to warm up in the cold weather

My J11B petrol Qashqai shows a correctly indicated temp after just a very short while , however it can take a good 15 miles on the motorway before the full effects of the heater are felt.
The dash gauge is damped so to speak so any peaks and blips are not indicated so as to not alarm the driver.

The J11 diagnostics I have show a PTC electrical heater unit within the Heat/Vent Block...just above the water heater core for cabin heating. Whether its installed in UK cars I couldn't say.
"When PTC relay turns ON, power supply is supplied to PTC heater. Heating element is heated and air flow
temperature is increased. Heating is available for a period of time until engine coolant temperature is
increased when engine starts cold in cold climate".
NOTE:
PTC heater operation depends on ambient temperature and battery voltage. PTC heater is ON when ambient
temperature is 8°C or less. PTC heater is OFF when ambient temperature is 12°C (53.6°F) or more. PTC
heater is ON when battery voltage is 11.5 V or more. PTC heater is OFF when battery voltage is 11 V or less.
Positive Temperature Coefficient (PTC) heaters
