I'm looking at new car bike racks and the easiest one for us would be boot mounted, but this would necessitate adding a numberplate/lighting board. I gather that this can be run through the boot lid and just plugged in somewhere under a panel in the boot but can't find any details as to where or what I'd need to do. Can anyone enlighten (sorry for the pun) me please? Mine's a 2017 (old style) model.

I think that you would need to instal a power socket somewhere convenient in the boot.
Probably not enormously complex for a proficient DIYer
Sadly, Nissan don’t think that the QQ needs one

For just a simple 12V socket in the boot you could follow my tutorial.
It isn't hard at all.
