First if you are unsure what you are doing disconect the battery
Things you need

A set of plastic trim removal tools
A micromini fuse tap and a 5 amp fuse (there is a spare one in the fuseboard)
A Car Cigarette Lighter Female Socket Extension Cable, Cigar Cable with Female Socket Connector for GPS/Dashcam Car Charger
All these are on (amazon, ebay)
cable ties
First position dashcam on windscreen and plug in usb cable, push wire under interior light console and follow round the roof lining as shown in pic.
Now take out 20amp fuse and put into fuse tap along with 5 amp as shown in pic. Insert fuse tap into fuse board.
Connect the red wire of the female socket connector to the fuse tap wire (i used a bullet conector for this) and the black wire to earth.

Tidy up your wiring and that it

Hi Steve
Once i had all the bits it was just a couple of hours, i think it was easier than my old j11 qahsqai.
I forgot to mention that you don't have to pull off the door rubber it just tucks nicely under the inside part of the rubber

Great photos!

The only thing I'd add is check how you put the cable down the pillar, so that you don't compromise the curtain air bag operation.

Assuming you're piggy-backing it doesn't really matter so long as it's ignition switched. People using use the relevant accessory socket one

Yes will be piggy backing it but i need a live feed for parking mode. Currently using Nextbase 522GW which doesn’t hold charge for long if parking mode is enabled with both front and back camera installed. Its hardwired into live feed and works perfectly in our A Class.
Hence the question so the battery on camera doesnt run out when ignition is off.

OK - always useful to have more information!

I have a Nextbase 512GW and I believe the internal battery on those fails. Certainly mine (hardwired into an ignition switched feed) reports "Low Battery" when I switch the ignition off.

The problem people have reported in the past when wiring a dashcam into a live feed is it then running down the main car battery and, sometimes, triggering the alarm as a consequence. What about trying the interior light one?

Someone else recently thought of using a powerpack instead to run the camera when the car was switched off, albeit that of course needs plugs changing over - someone more experienced in electronics might be able to formulate a "hard wire kit" to incorporate one permanently into the system?

Very good instructions. I would say it would even be the same for those that d not have a cigar lighter socket as it would then go straight to the fusebox with piggybank holder as you have done
