Slightly off-topic, but I'd recommend that any new car you have has Android Auto built in - the maps are updated automatically.
For example, they are currently re-constructing junction 28 of the M4 - google maps already shows the new layout, both in the car and on line , shown here as the grey lines

So is that 4 versions in about 4 years?
Is there no free update at all, ie are the maps just current for 1 year then cost?

There's a free update on the "mapcare" program for cars since 2016 under 3 years old, but it seems they never give you the latest, but the one behind it, i.e. you'd get V2 now as V3 is the latest.cyclonebri1 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 05, 2018 6:54 am So is that 4 versions in about 4 years?

But yes, they bring them out every year, which is good as roads are constantly changing, mine has always gone out of date as soon as I get it!
And like I said earlier, it doesn't need to cost as you can normally flog your previous one for an equivalent amount you spent on the new one.

My new car (see below) has Android Auto but unless I've not found the right setting to adjust, the display of maps on the car screen is not at the right scale. I prefer the inbuilt one over both Google Maps and Waze.rod9669 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 04, 2018 6:59 pm Slightly off-topic, but I'd recommend that any new car you have has Android Auto built in - the maps are updated automatically.

Rather disappointed with Android Auto to be honest, particularly since it means plugging the phone in too.
(2015 Nissan Qashqai Tekna DIG-T 1.2 sold 15/6/18) ~ 2018 Suzuki Ignis SZ5 - 2018 Yamaha MT-07 ~ (2024 Volvo EX30 ordered)
On mine, when in navigation mode, zooms in and out as you're coming up to junctions etc - I find it very good, better than the built-in TomTomgloucester wrote: ↑Wed Sep 05, 2018 12:58 pmMy new car (see below) has Android Auto but unless I've not found the right setting to adjust, the display of maps on the car screen is not at the right scale. I agree on AA - it could, and should, be a lot better than it is. It's almost as if it's been designed by someone who doesn't actually drive. WRT plugging in the phone, the newest headsets can do the data transfer wirelessly so it is being improved - I think it still needs to be on wireless charging though

My Qashqai had its first service today and I had 3 job sheets to sign:
1. Fixed price service;
2. Recall notice - replacement VIN label; and
3. Map update.
I have taken a picture of the replacement SD card which was installed today...

You could deny that card (Q1/2017) and wait few more weeks for latest release.

Just been for a run out in the car. The A6 Broughton Bypass is still missing - stunned silence from the SatNav as it thinks I have been driving off-road across fields and meadows!
