Diesel DPF Issues
Could this whole issue be avoided by using additives?(see below, page 4, 2nd from the left).http://www.wynns.co.za/Catalogue%202015.pdf

This is like a bad penny coming back to haunt us. It really is an 'Urban myth' upon which the likes of the vendors of smooth faces, no knee pain and everlasting life prevail. The modern diesel does not suffer from DPF Issues anymore than all CVT's and especially Nissan ones are of a faulty design/production process.
Tekna CVT 1.6 Magnetic Red - born 4/4/14 P/X 25/10/2015 for £19k with 12,000 on the clock - great car but time to change. No problems whatsoever in those 18 month's.
Diesel particulate filters should be trouble and maintenance free, but it is NOT suitable for people who rarely do journeys of 15 miles or more. They can fail to burn off the trapped soot in some cases. This is not a problem with the Nissan implementation. It is common to all modern diesel engines that are fitted with DPF's, which they all are.Besides this, the DPF has a finite life before it needs replacing. With every regeneration, a small residue of ash remains and builds up with repeated regenerations. Normally I guess that its life should exceed 100,000 miles, but that is dependant on the type of driving undertaken and the condition of air filters and injectors etc. Long distance drivers might exceed 150,000 miles before the DPF needs replacing.

Hello,
my car is due for its 4th year service & has close to 65K kms. The dealer in his quote has mentioned DPF cleaning. Not very expensive. But wanted to check is this recommended as the regen is automatic?
Thanks.

Hi,
Your dealer is just looking to make some additional cash, all they are going to do is add a cleaner/additive to the fuel. It's not necessary, your car, for the most part, will be cleaning itself.

Not if used as per instructions. I'm a fan of Forte additives.
