Hi all,

I have a 1.6 petrol turbo Qashqai Tekna on a 65 plate (September 2015) . I am having tremendous problems with the gearbox, in particular crunching between 3rd and 4th, 2nd and 4th (as identified by the dealer) and also it popping out of first gear.

Nissan have replaced the initial gearbox and the same problem exists. The dealership are now saying this is a 'characteristic' of the new Qashqai model - has anyone had or heard of the same issue?

Sadly, because the dealer says there is not a problem, Nissan and their finance company RCI Finance are washing their hands of responsibility.

Any help or advice would be gratefully received as I am struggling to get anywhere fast with them now.

Cheers,
Steve

I have the same model and engine bought new in August 2015. No problems at all with the gearbox,so cannot be a characteristic of this engine/gearbox. DO NOT accept any excuse insist for warranty repairs. Threatening legal action will ensure dealer/Nissan will rectify.

That cannot be right. You have a fault and a serious one by the sounds of it. Record the fault occurring on video. Get an independent gearbox specialist to examine it. Give notice to Nissan about your intention to take legal action to get this rectified.

BT1973, well looks like you have a problem on your hands getting this problem sorted. I have mentioned this before and as Gel has also mentioned contact NCS if not already done. Living in Germany (the land of paperwork) I now always when I have problems send an email and photos as necessary, as then you have document if and when you need it later (lawyer for example).
Also as mentioned by UKDOGMAN give an Independent Engineer a try, over here they are called "Gutachter's (Experts) or their are the Motoring Organisations like DEKRA (AA/RAC) which I have just found are also in the UK : "Dispute or Arbitration-Related Report" - dispute with manufacturer !
Sorry but I just cannot understand the attitude of some Dealers to their Customers after all they have your money and IMHO have a right to give the customer a service not fob them off, have you tried for example another Dealer or in fact contacted a Lawyer? - Best of Luck Dave ;)
PS : just as an example, I mentioned last week a problem to our Dealer that has happened twice recently, but nothing major and their comment was sit down and we will write out a Guarantee Report on Nissan for action and correction :)

Wheelie Bealie Thanks ! I try to be helpful and positive :)
Now I have been out of circulation in the UK for some time, but don't the "Trading Standards" & Citizens Advice Bureau still exist and offer help to Citizens with this type of problem ? - Dave ;)

Trading Standards seem to send out template e mails these days when trying to report an issue stating they can't help, and to contact the Citizen's Advice Bureau. Down to government cutbacks presumably.
The latter are pretty overwhelmed these days, so I don't hold out much hope there :(

User could also flag issue by tweeting @NissanUK, as that very often generates a response from Nissan HO.

Thanks for the comments and advice.

As advised I changed my user ID and then got well and truly locked out. So I am under a slightly different one now....

I have spoken to Nissan HQ. They initially said go away and talk to the finance company (RCI Bank) but were incredibly helpful and gave me the number for them  . The finance company MD Steve Gowler also said go away but I did in parallel speak with someone who worked in the office of James Wright (MD of Nissan UK). Initially he was very concerned at the problems but then a week later it was a different matter. They had been told by Nissan technical they couldn't find an issue with the car (back to the crunching gearbox characteristic of the new Qashqai). At this point I nearly lost the will to live. Could I speak to James Wright - no chance....

RCI customer service is poor. Nissan customer service is poor. Nissan technical don't have an answer for the issues.......as DaveBerlin says they have my money and that's all they seem to care about. A perfect advert for anyone considering buying a Nissan.

Next steps. I have test driven another one that doesn't crunch. I have started a complaint with the Financial Ombudsman (as the car is financed) and I have been in touch with someone to provide an independent technical opinion. Interesting though he said at some point one of the teeth will fall off and cause a lot more damage - perhaps Nissan and RCI attitude is to take the risk. I am not so sure I like that risk particularly if I am driving down the motorway.

I did ask if anyone else has the issues, but from a portfolio perspective for my complaint if anyone, with the same model, doesn't have the issues please can you say so as well? This will help me lots.

More to follow, cheers all.

Update - I emailed James Wright and heard nothing back (or anything from RCI) so I made a compilation video of the problems that they cant find.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F76NqzStmuw

I sent this to both and got a reply from Nissan saying they are reviewing it. Nothing from the finance company!

Any thoughts anyone has would be appreciated.

Cheers.
