Sandgrounder: I was interested in your photo showing your CO2 saved as 0.93kg after 1934 miles. Had you zeroed the CO2 saved just before? I ask because I bought a new 1.6 petrol N-Connecta in September and have only just clocked up 1900 miles. My CO2 saved reached 6.0kg today. I've never zeroed it. I'm now wondering how much petrol I have saved! My best mpg is 61.2 on a motorway run of about 12 miles, while a shorter run on a very crowded (and slow) motorway yesterday clocked up 49.,2mpg. That's only fractionally under the mpg I got from my previous diesel car, a Citroen Berlingo, so I'm pretty happy with the fuel economy on my Qq. .

Hello TerryH,
No, I haven’t zeroed the CO2 saved - that’s the total saved since I bought the car.
I use the QQ for commuting and there isn’t any opportunity for the Stop/Start to come into play as there are no traffic lights and just a couple of roundabouts on my route, where the traffic moves freely.
The CO2 saved has been achieved at the weekend when I’m stationary at traffic lights - although that’s been very infrequently recently due to the bad weather.
When I part-exchanged my other QQ, I had only saved about 5kg in 15,000 miles through similar circumstances as mentioned above!

Thanks for the reply, Sandgrounder. Interesting. Where I live it's stop/start all the time. Oddly enough, I find it quite satisfying to see the CO2 saved figure climbing.

Just been for a short drive in the car (62 mile round trip) and achieved a personal best of 50.5 mpg.
Also, since the last fill up, I’ve driven 140 miles on a quarter tank of petrol. Good job the fuel economy of the QQ is improving as the BP down the road has been increasing the price by 1p per litre per day it seems - 128.9 the last time I checked (diesel 131.9)

Terry,
To get a 1.6 petrol to get 60 mpg on the motorway you must have been going down a hill with the wind behind you, your travelling at 40mph, your tailgating a lorry or your QQ is lieing to you.

Hope mine loosens up soon, average is around 35mpg....
Unless you fit a mast & a sail, your probably not going to get 60mpg out of your QQ.
I've just had a re-read of this old thread with interest - was it determined that MPG gets better as the engine breaks in? How long does this take?
The reason I ask is that I had my 1.2 engine replaced with a new engine under warranty about 2000 miles ago, and although the onboard display seems to be getting decent MPG, real world I seem to be refilling with petrol all the time.
I can't trust the onboard readings anymore because I think this is calculated using your current MPG. e.g. my display said 101 miles to empty recently when I set off home from work (crawling traffic). When I got home 3 miles later, it said 90 miles to empty. Had dropped 16 miles in just 3 miles.
But when I hit the motorway, with it saying 70 miles to empty recently, and travelled 20 miles, it ended up saying 85 miles to empty !
Very confusing.
So I started to look at it a bit more closely, and I think I'm getting about 30-33 mpg in crawling urban traffic (my daily commute) and about 45-50 on the motorway/A roads.
My last full tank I got 380 miles out of it. This was probably 80% urban though.
At my last refill, just after refilling, it said 401 miles to empty. I've done 39 miles since then and it now says 420 miles till empty (scratches head).
I always shifted up when the display tells me to. on roads at 30mph ish it is telling me to shift to 5th, so staying in 3rd is going to need a major change of driving habit..

I saw this bit of the thread with interest - why would it improve things if you are driving at a higher RPM and therefore by definition using more petrol?

chrisw99, I’m driving a 1.5dci and at 30mph should still be in 3rd gear, with the change to 4th coming around 32 to 34mph. Changing up too soon uses more fuel as the car needs more grunt to get it up to the correct speed for the gear you are using. It does make a difference.
