Ok, cheers, but I thought this thread was about the 1.2 petrol? Gear shift ratios are totally different between petrol and diesel. Around 25mph in 1.2 petrol it starts flashing at you to shift up to 4th.gvmdaddy wrote: ↑Mon Sep 17, 2018 1:21 pm chrisw99, I’m driving a 1.5dci and at 30mph should still be in 3rd gear, with the change to 4th coming around 32 to 34mph. Changing up too soon uses more fuel as the car needs more grunt to get it up to the correct speed for the gear you are using. It does make a difference.

Interesting topic. Is the QQ correct in telling you when to shift up/down gears, or is it just a wet finger in the air judgement?
I feel the car could benefit from being in 4th at 30mph, but at the same time would hate to be over laboring the engine/clutch.
Any more thoughts/views?

Certainly not a ‘wet finger in the air judgement’.tidyguy wrote: ↑Mon Sep 17, 2018 2:01 pm Interesting topic. Is the QQ correct in telling you when to shift up/down gears, or is it just a wet finger in the air judgement?

The upshift/downshift indicator varies on the rev range according to the load on the engine, not just your speed. Try it on the flat then again uphill or even with a heavy payload and you’ll find you need to give it anywhere from 100 to 400 more revs before being asked to upshift.
