or from aliexpress.

How was your airbag wiring? does the new bag have two wires or one?
Nice find, might be useful.

Just the yellow connector, same as current airbag.

Not good news guys, looked at the wiring diagrams today and switch designs, both j11a and j11b both utilise 3 wires which go from the combination switch (this is a module which is integrated in with the steering wheel stalks yeah) through the spiral cable then into the steering wheel controls, they are the exact some pins and connectors

But

The switch in the steering wheel is the same design with a 12v feed and another feed which I geuss is either 6 or 5v and then the last wire is the signal wire back to the combination switch so 3 wires in total.

Each of the 2 supply wires have 5 buttons its connected to so 12v supply has 5 switches(buttons) and 6v supply has 5 switches( buttons)
So 5 buttons have 1 ohm resistor, 121, 321,723 and 2023
And the other 5 have exactly the same value resistor but they are connected to a different value supply
The example above is 2013 j11a resistor values up to 2017

J11b resistor values are different they go
1 ohm
52 ohm
134 ohm
264 ohm
654 ohm
2126 ohm

So the output on the third wire going to the combination switch will be different

Volume down works because it is connected the 1 ohm resistor on the same supply on both j11a and j11b

Volume up wont work because the switch is connected to a 121 ohm resistor on a j11a and a 52 ohm resistor on a j11b

Sorry for bad news unless you can take the switches apart and change those resistor which I am not sure you can I havent got both switches to check

But as for the wiring they are exactly the same same pin outs

Hope this helps

Hi Lewis
So what if you get j11b spiral cable and swap it with the j11a one do you think this will work?
Thanks

No wouldnt change anything a spiral cable is just a ribbon cable inside a plastic housing it just allows electrical connection through into the steering wheel as the wheel turns. The wiring inside the spiral cable will be the same on both and will go to the same place ( combination switch and steering wheel control switch )

The only way to get this to work that I can think off right now is changing the resistors inside the switch.
Would require measuring each one then replacing them with your current ones in your original switch so

52 out 121 put in
134 out 321 put in
And so on

This would require desoldering them and then soldering the correct ones back in.

That's all I can think of

Before doing this modification has anyone checked with their insurers are to whether it's permissible under their insurance? If it is, are there conditions attached - such as getting a qualified person to certify the installation is acceptable? And is there a premium increase?

Just wondering - wouldn't be going to all this trouble myself...

So it's a specialist job then for a electric technician 😱

Hi have just tried it the volume up work's on the red hang up phone button. Is it not just a case of moving the wires around to the right connector on the plug?

So who starts producing adapter chips for us?
