Looking at last year's MOT documents, I notice that there is a check made for an expiry date on the Tyre Repair Kit. Mine is about to expire and the car is due for its MOT in the next few weeks.
The questions I have are.
1. Will the car fail its MOT with the Tyre Repair kit having passed the expiry date?
2. Do Nissan dealers impose a charge to replace said item and if so how much?
And other info would be appreciated.
Thanks

1/
As with a spare tyre, if one's not in boot they can't check.
Doubt many MOT testers that diligent.

2/
Yes, they are not a charity.
Never use the kit however, as makes the tyre unrepairable, and usually fatally damages
the TPMS valve too, so that's another £50+ just for that.

Kit is made by Continental Tyres, and they have a certain vested interest in selling
you a new tyre.

Use the Nissan Breakdown cover you have during warranty (eg RAC), and continues if you
have serviced at a Nissan dealer. ;)

Thanks for replying.

Re Answer to Q1. Are you suggesting I remove the Tyre Repair Kit (TRK) before the MOT so that the expiry date cannot be checked? I would have thought that having no TRK would be as bad as having an expired date on the TRK foam bottle.

Re Answer to Q2. Thought as much. Should have bought a spare when I acquired the car....too late now.

Had Nissan break down cover for three years but never extended/renewed.

Hopefully the car will pass its MOT and last out until I get a new car in the autumn. (Un)fortunately, will not be buying another Qashqai though.

You have raised a relevant point here, luckily we have a Spare Wheel Kit. I have just checked our „Gunk“ and it states 06/18, which means it will be out of date soon on our 08/14 QQ. I would have thought that as this was a Std. Fitment from Nissan that technically it could fail the MOT, but I could be wrong but for around £25 it is most probably worth the outlay to replace and have piece of mind - No Failure ! Dave :D

Out of interest can you use the pump part as an ordinary tyre pump?

Just checked mine - car is 06/2015 - canister is 03/2019.

Difficult to find the 300ml bottles on line.

Continental's own website doesn't have it - it says:

The product can be used for the tire dimensions which are shown in the following chart and with a required tire pressure of up to 300 kPa (3 bar, 43 psi). 450 ml Replacement bottles can be used as a replacement for ContiMobilityKit’s 300 ml, 450 ml and 560 ml OE bottles (560 ml OE bottle depending on tire dimensions - please see chart).

https://www.continental-tires.com/car/t ... mentbottle

But it presumably wouldn't fit in the foam housing in the boot.

Here's Amazon's offering (the 450ml):

Code: Select all

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Continental-Mobility-Replacement-Sealant-Refill/dp/B0174NZQKE
... and an alternative compatible (allegedly):

Code: Select all

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sealant-Refill-Replacement-Continental-Mobility/dp/B00K1DUC5E
EDIT - any reason why Amazon URLs aren't displaying as others do? I've had to "code" them to make them visible
