Hello all,
i have just joined to see if any help can help resolve an issue we have with our Mk2 1.6 DCi Qash

The ESP traction and ESP traction off are always on, this stops the car from using start stop and is odviously an MOT fail, we tried an independant garage and they said they fixed it but the day after it was back on so we simply gave up and have lived with it for a few months but i really need to fix the issue

Have any of you peeps got any advice on what i need to do to resolve the issue

Colin, your Guarantee has most probably ended but if this problem is always there I would recommend a visit to a Nissan Dealer (they are not all bad) and get it checked, it might not be dangerous but you never know. OK it will cost but probably worth it. The Independents are OK but possibly Specialist Equipment is required - Dave :)
This might help you :

There are a few sensors to be check that could lead to a ESP failure. You have to find a garage with nissan consult 3 scanner or to go to a nissan service.

Thanks guys, our experience with our local Nissan dealers is avoid at all cost

We purchased the car privately second hand and it still had main dealer warranty, we phoned the main dealer to give them our details and warranty info which they logged, the car went for a major service and it was collected and returned to us, i then get an email with video showing the lower radiator hose was just about to burst and a part of the body was rubbing on it. bare in mind we were using the same Nissan main dealer garage that sold the car, the cost of the repair i was informed was... cant remember exactly but i think it was about £280 !!! yeah my thoughts too

So i rang them up, spoke to the service guy and he was more than hapy to book me in for the repairs and take our money UNTIL i pointed out it was STILL under warranty and they had been given all the info needed, the only people who had ever looked at the car was them therefore the fault was a manufacture fault

After some gruffing and not happy grumbling he then said he would book us in to get it fixed which allegidly it was, tbh i am no mechanic and have no way of ever checking, for all i know it is still the same but as there are no fluid leaks i assume it is fixed

What Pi**ed me off was they drove the car with an odvious major fault which they were aware off and should have fixed as soon as it was found and they then tried to charge me for it.... we had to wait 2 weeks for the repair and there was no way i could let my wife drive the car incase the rad hose burst, i hate the bas**rds for that, it makes me soooo angry

The other nearest Nissan dealership is known to be a fly by night bunch changing there main dealership franchise often and they have just started advertising on the radio that they are shutting down...again

I will never touch a main Nissan dealer ever again

Anyways that said and done.... i do remember before the light became constantly on it would only illuminate IF you moved the steering wheel slightly , i was wondering if it was a wheel sensor connection that has worked loose, and actually the more i think about it the fault really only started to appear after the Nissan dealership serviced the car, wonder if they dislodged something

One thing the failed attempt to correct the issue by my local independant did do, they stopped the car from trying to kill us so thats been a nice bonus, the lights would come on for no aparent reason and the drivers side front wheel would suddenly brake with ABS braking, very exciting when your not expecting it in the dry on a flat road at 40mph, at least that has stopped

Managed to get a snapon handheld diag onto the qq and the issue appears to be the steering angle input sensor, watching on the snapon after reseting the fault, the values returned when the steering wheel is moved should go from a minus figure to a plus figure for left and right steering wheel turn, however on mine if the wheel is turned left or right the values returned are in the thousands with no plus minus, for example left turn returns 30076 right turn similar.. the numbers are inconsistant but show the sensor going out of range

Does anyone know if the nissan consult 3 does anything different to the snap on, does the consult 3 have more of an ability to reset this issue or does it sound like a steering angle sensor fail.

Anyone with a consult 3 in southampton able to help ?

I had exactly the same problem with recalibrated steering angle. Only with nissan consult 3 I fix the problem. Practically you have to have the wheels on the right position then write in the car computers new values as 0 degree. The esp will reset by himself if it will get correct values from the car computers. Nissan Consult 3 had a special function for this. It's just a 5 minutes job.
