I have 2017 tekna, and hate the auto stop/start cutting in at every stop. How do I turn this off permanently? If I turn it off at the switch, it comes back on again next time I use the car.

Don't think you can i tried the trick under the bonnet where you turn the bracket so the bonnet does not hit the switch but the alarm system comes on in tekna....david

I find it almost second nature now to press the "off" button when I start up, it's almost as automatic as putting your seat belt on.

As Dave has mentioned you can apparently turn the switch as our Technician here offered to do this last week, but here in Germany there is no Alarm (another country spec difference). We are now in the habit of automatically turning “Off” the “Stop Start” on start up just as daddydoug does - Dave :D

Congratulations on having Stop/Start that works! I cannot understand why anyone WOULDN'T want Stop/Start!

Mine didn't work much anyway - between New Year and mid-June it only kicked in I think on three days. The dealer couldn't find anything wrong on several inspections. Told me I wasn't driving the car hard enough! Part of the reason for selling it...

The Ignis's kicked in more in the first 24 hours than the Qashqai's in 5.5 months!

Personally I'm fine with stop/start when you say have to wait at traffic lights for a while. But if you are constantly shuffling a few feet at a time in heavy traffic, then that's the time to turn the stop/start off.

Because it wearing down your battery...

I, or better, my wife, uses the car mainly for very short city runs with dense traffic. This demands already much of the battery so I don't want this system kicking in from time to time as well.
When it was on back then, it would shut down the engine while waiting on a parking lot for instance, but I would go live some minutes later for whatever reason... I prefer shutting down the engine my self when waiting, this way I know for sure it will remain down all the time. ;)

Turning the switch works perfectly if you don't have the alarm as well. I think UK cars do have the alarm?

The problem is not "wearing down the battery" but the battery simply not being charged sufficiently in the first place! My dealer refuses to accept that - but it's a simple fact - charge the battery overnight and stop/start works fine the next day!
