I took my 14 plate petrol Quashqai to both Halfords and Kwik Fit for a re-gas but was told it uses the new refrigerant and has a different connector so they couldn’t do it. However, when I’ve looked in the manual it’s telling me it takes R-134a gas!
So now I’m completely confused is the manual wrong or is it just the connection that caused the issues?

Are you certain; check under bonnet.

Thanks. Sticker says the new type. Not really sure why I thought the manual might actually give the right information haha.

Thanks for the reply.

In the main new gas only available via main dealers. Hopefully in time air con specialists will adopt the new
gas too, as there must be growing demand.
That should bring in an element of competition. ;)

You could do with updating your forum signature adding LOCATION; some Nissan dealerships
are much cheaper for gas; one in Southampton I recall from another post on subject.

The pdf version of the manual I have clearly states:

Air conditioning system refrigerant – –
HFO-1234yf (for Europe)
HFC-134a (R-134a) (except for Europe)

Air conditioning system lubricants – –
ND-12 oil or equivalent (for Europe)
ND-8 oil (Except for Europe)

Check out the problems cars of your age have with a faulty condenser - refilling might not be the solution.

Thanks Gloucester. The technical info pages in my manual says r-134a on pages 9-3 and 9-5 so they must’ve updated it.
I’ve had no end of problems with this car and not even had it a year so I’ve learnt not to expect anything to be a straightforward fix anymore. That’ll teach me for not doing my research eh!
Thanks again.

Nat84, if you want to dig deeper on this subject there are a load of existing facts under the “Search” Area regarding the problems, regassing, R1234yf etc. I would personally give these posts a read as it should get you up to speed on what the problems is all about and your options when you confront Nissan - Dave :D
