2018 What Car Reliability Survey
We asked more than 18,000 people to to tell us about the reliability of their cars. From that data, we've compiled ratings for 159 models from 31 different car brands. Here we reveal the most - and least - dependable family SUVs aged one to four years old
... and coming in bottom of the list is:
Least reliable: Nissan Qashqai diesel - 79.9%
What went wrong? Battery 21%; Interior trim 11%; Steering 9%; Engine 8%; Engine electrics 8%; Bodywork 7%; Gearbox/clutch 7%; Non-engine electrics 6%; Air-con 4%; Brakes 3%; Sat-nav 3%; Wheels/ tyres 3%; Exhaust 1%; Exterior lights 1%; Fuel system 1%; Suspension 1%
A shocking 47% of diesel Nissan Qashqais went wrong, with faults in every one of our categories. Most remained driveable and were fixed under warranty, but a few owners had to pay up to £300.
Almost as many (46%) petrol Qashqais had a problem. Although the faults weren’t as widespread as on the diesels, a large proportion were on the battery (19%) and engine (12%). Engine electrics accounted for 8% and non-engine electrics 6%. More than half of cars could still be driven, but some owners faced bills of up to £500.
