Hello

I have a 1.2 cvt qashqai from 2016

My warranty ends in january 2019 and i’m doubting if i would take the extended warranty from Nissan

Anybody got experience with this extended warranty and is it worth it ?

100% worth it, but I'm biased as I needed a new engine which would have been £8500 if I hadn't taken out the extended warranty.

If yours is a CVT, and a 1.2, you could be facing £8500 for the engine, a similar amount for the CVT drive, both of which are known to go bad!

Go for the 2 years if you can. I think mine was £249 for 1 year or £399 for 2 years when I extended it. Ummed and ahhed about whether to just go for 1 year. The engine needed replacing in the second year.

I'm hoping I can extended it a third year when it's getting close to running out in March.

If you can afford it go with the Nissan one - surely it's going to be easier to claim on that than an aftermarket one?

By the way the prices I was quoted were MUCH higher than chrisw99 has quoted - copied in from another topic:

For my 1.2DigT Tekna on 19,500 miles the quote was starting 29/06/2018:

One year/80,000 - £377
Two years/100,000 - £747 (that's an extra £370)
Three years/125,000 - £1207 (that's an extra £460)

Sorry, my prices were because I was buying the car secondhand from a Nissan main dealer in March 2017 at 2.5 years old so it still had some of the original warranty left. Got a 2 year warranty with it. And the invoice breakdown showed 249 and 149 or maybe the other way round. Probably completely different to extending an existing car

The problem with third party warranties is that they always try and wangle out of forking out. The two times I tried to claim using a third party warranty, they told me it wasn't covered.
At least with the Nissan extended warranty, you're getting the full manufacturers warranty again.

I agree but let me point out that it's not the "full" manufacturer's warranty - it largely covers just "mechanical and electrical" items - so for instance trim issues wouldn't be covered.

ULTIMATE COVER

Ultimate Cover is available on Vehicles up to seven years old having travelled less than 75,000 miles from new, at the point of warranty purchase.

Covered items

Ultimate Cover covers all the manufacturer’s original components for Mechanical or Electrical Failure with the exception of the items listed
below (subject to the General Warranty Exclusions and Terms and Conditions detailed later in this handbook).

Excluded items

The following items are not covered:

• All service items/maintenance operations
• Air conditioning recharge unless required as part of a component failure covered by the warranty
• Ancillary drive belts
• Batteries
• Brake friction materials
• Brake noise caused by an accumulation of dust
• Clutch friction materials
• Electrical software update or reprogramming unless required due to the failure of a covered part
• Exhaust system including diesel particulate filters (catalytic converters are covered for internal failure only and not accidental damage, corrosion or damage resulting from the use of incorrect fuel)
• Fuses, lamps and LED illumination, bulbs and bulb holders, including printed circuit boards which are part of the lamp
• Media storage devices
• Non factory-fitted components
• Tyres and valves
• Wheels
• Wheel balancing
• Wheel alignment or any wheel adjustments unless required as part of a component failure covered by the warranty
• Windscreen washer jets
• Wiper blades
• Water ingress including damage to covered components caused by water

Trim and bodywork including:
• Adjustments of doors, bonnet, boot lid, tailgate or any component which may require adjustment from time to time
• Aerials
• Glass (heater elements are covered)
• Exterior trim, bodywork and cosmetic finishes
• Interior trim, check straps and hinges
• Paintwork
• Seat covers and cushions
• Weatherstrips and body seals

I have always been one for thinking should I or not it sounds expensive, but when I purchased my used Qashqai I went ahead and purchased the 2 year extended, do I thing it was worth it not sure yet but car has been back for a couple of minor issues and all have been repaired at no cost to me
