When I am in the back of the car (i like to have a lay down in my lunch break) I am unable to open the doors from the inside. I have to climb over to the front to get out! I've tried changing the settings. Never had this problem with my 2016 Qashqai

@Kaziwal21 Is the child lock not on?

See below picture. You see the small lever and lock.. this is in unlocked position.

I've just leased the 2019 1.5 diesel Qashqai and had I known that passengers in the back seat would be locked in with only me having to get out and open their door from the outside? I would NEVER have taken possession of it. And yes I know about the lock switch in the door, but when it is turned off the children in the back can open the door. I advise anyone to steer clear.

Welcome to this forum.

I don't understand your point. As far as I am aware the Qashqai's locking scenario is just like other cars.

EDIT - having read your post several times it appears that you're thinking the car should be able to detect the age of the person sitting in the back seat?

If you set the child locks on then the doors can only be opened from the outside.

If you set the child locks off then the doors can be opened from the inside.

Not sure what you're trying to achieve to be honest.

So you are suggesting the car should know when a child is in the back and restrict opening the door from inside, but when there is an adult the car should know this and allow the car to be unlocked from the inside? Send it over to Nissan as a feature request.....

Don't know what's not to understand? My last car, a Ford Kuga, had the usual lock or unlock button on the drivers door. When the driver presses the unlock side of said button, all, including the child locks in the back doors, unlock. This allows everyone to escape the car in an emergency.
It makes no difference whether the driver or passengers are children. Not sure why age is questioned? What should be very clear to everyone is that in an emergency situation, all doors should unlock with one button to allow passengers to escape. All the cars I have ever owned have had this facility. A disabled person, and thankfully I'm not too disabled, may not be able to get out of the car and get round to physically open the back doors in time. This is the first Nissan I've had and I've been told all Nissan cars are the same. Maybe Nissan owners don't know that there are safer cars out there?
