Qashqai Model: Mk.3 Qashqai - J12 (2021+) New Model

Hi, I have a 2010 N-Tec at present which is getting a bit old. Have been offered a 1.2 DiG-T Tekna XTronic but I’m worried the engine size is too small for the size of car and it’ll impact on the driving. Has anyone drove the 1.2 automatic and is it slow? Thanks in advance

It is not a athlete but not that slow.

I guess you have the 1.6 petrol? Then I can tell that the engine is more punchier than the 1.6 petrol in the J10 and smoother to drive. The Xtronic i like.

If. You want more go for the 1.6 of the J11a or get a new 0ne j11b wiith the 1.3 140 hp or 160 hp. Only the 160 hp version has an automatic gearbox.

BlueA, we have had the 1,2L engine now for 4 years and found this to be very adequate for daily use, providing you keep the revs up when pulling away. The engine is quite and very smooth, but there is one but in hilly areas you do need to use the Gearbox a lot and that is why we will be looking at the new 1,3L engine. We have not had one problem with the engine and personally I like it.
Sorry but we have the manual so cannot really comment on that side - Dave 😉

Thank you for the reply. I have the 1.5 diesel. I’m just worried the automatic coupled with the engine size won’t give enough power.

Hi BlueA

I've had my 1.2 xtronic now for 7 months and love it. I find it reasonably quick and smooth.
Now, I'm no engine expert and perhaps am easier satisfied than most, but have recently come back from a stay near to the Peak District.
Very hilly and I had virtually a full load and didn't notice any problems.
Surely you could get a test drive with your local Dealer.

The only performance issues I had with my 1.2 Manual were really limited to cruise control kicking out on gradients when in 6th gear owing to the engine not being strong enough to pull the car up the hill. My present car suffers likewise. OK a gear or two down...

I have the 1.6 DCi and it's still not powerful enough to go up some gradients on the motorway without changing down a gear. My advice is to get the most powerful engine you can, as it won't be enough. When I say most powerful, we are talking 160hp for the latest 1.3 petrol, so we're not breaking any records here :)
