Hi
Just been told that our December 2014 1.2 petrol
44.000 miles served as per schedule needs a new engine
When serviced in December 2018 informed there was possible issue with oil consumption and to bring it back in 3000 miles for a check
At 2500 miles on Friday warning message oil and filter service required
Car inspected by by Nissan dealer this morning I was informed it needs a new engine
Dealer contacting Nissan for possible support

My question is what’s the likely to be the problem
Is this a common problem
How helpful are Nissan in these instances
Thanks in advance

Always use SEARCH before raising new query; if you'd done this you'd have found-

John, as Gel suggested there is a vast amount of information here when you look for it, but you are not the first new member to miss this point now you know.
If I was you take these facts with you and show your Dealer just so he knows that you have seen the facts about this Engine problem. It will be interesting to see what you are offered as you seem to be out of Spec. Ours is a Aug 2014 Tekna and “touch wood” no problems as yet - Good Luck keep us informed of the outcome Dave 😉

Just Googled this problem: "Nissan Qashqai owners driven to distraction by engine failures"

2014 1.2 Renault engines !! (Timing Chain, Oil Burn)

That article links back a QQ forum post here:

A look around Youtube reveals this chap (family company) in W. Yorks who is rather passionate about Nissan cars. Not QQ (yet?) but issues common it appears. Here he calls Nissan UK about failing timing chains for Navara and Pathfinder and warranty work? He has an interesting subscription site on Youtube I find, but I don't want to revisit oily things again really.

Welcome to this forum!

Unfortunately as you've probably read by now this is a not uncommon problem. It seems confined to forums however - it doesn't figure at review sites.

You potentially would have heard a rattle as well as experiencing low oil level.

Much as I liked my Qashqai, and there were no signs that it was affected (at 20k miles), this impending potential problem was the principal reason for me trading it in last June at the end of its three-year warranty. Although I investigated an extended warranty, it took the dealer a month and three visits to give me quotes - which were quite a bit higher than other people reported receiving - and this was the last straw with the dealer too, so bye, bye Nissan...

Hi
Still awaiting a decision from Nissan will update once it arrives
The engine doesn’t have the death rattlefrom the timing chain
It has been suggested by an engineer I’ve spoken too that it may be an issue with the oil sludging causing oil starvation resulting in bore scoring which subsequently results in oil being sucked up the bores and burnt off
Having spoken to a well respected motor sport engineer once the car is repaired it will be departing my ownership
He has suggested that if it is oil sludge it is only a matter of time before the turbo packs up
Really sad as we really like the car as it meets all of our needs
Will look at the face lifted model with the 1.3 petrol engine and better auto box
We have the CVT one and after so many miles I’ve got used to it
We’ve had Nissans for the last 10 years so sad and frustrating
