Hi

I have recently purchased a 2016 top spec Qashqai and am generally happy with it.
One thing that has seriously disappointed me is the head unit and the fact I cannot update to get apple CarPlay or android auto.
I was after advice from other owners who have upgraded the head unit as I really want to keep the 360 cameras.
Surely there has to be an aftermarket head unit that supports this function?

Thanks for the response but the write up I seen was on an older model car and an android unit, what I am after is a unit that has connectivity for apple car play and android auto, not an android unit

Ah right - I should read things slower.............................

I don't recall anyone on here reporting they've fitted such a unit.

To be honest I'm not convinced by the hype about Android Auto. I have it on my present car but prefer the inbuilt satnav to either Google or Waze and really don't like having to plug it in rather than just leave my phone in my pocket.

You wrote "not an android unit". This is an Android unit and only 2GB RAM memory.

Ok a little explanation is required.

Android 8.0 Oreo (or earlier ) operating system powers your Mobile phone or Tablet, Android Automotive is a sub development of the operating system incorporating integration with the Vehicle HAL (hardware extraction layer) specifically for Head Units.

Android Auto is an application that runs on your Mobile phone and allows direct connection to a compatible head unit. This then allows you to use some of the phones features via your head unit, usually by use of the Google Assistant.

The only main feature the Android Automotive Head unit doesn’t have that your phone has is the ability to make a phone call direct from the head unit, it can only use Blue Tooth connectivity to your phone for this.

I have successfully fitted a head unit running Android (automotive) 8.0 Oreo to a J11 2015 Qashqai Tekna with 360 deg cameras. Android Auto is pointless if you can have a a full featured Android head unit.

Ok, just to clarify, I didn’t realise that apple CarPlay would work on an android head unit so if it does I am all for it.
So HgtDave are you happy with the unit?
All cameras working as they should and good sound etc? And parking assist?
Was it easy enough to fit?
Sorry for all the questions, I have just never been in the situation where I need to ensure I retain so much functionality and have not been in the position to just upgrade to a pioneer or alpine unit.
