Start/Stop System Failure, Won't start

Morning
Ths is relating to a 2014 Qashqai 1.5 diesel
Got a feeling this will have been covered before, but I'm struggling to find a post replicating my exact scenario.
Two days ago whilst my wife was sriving home, she stopped at red lights and the start/stop system kicked in, apon applying the clutch to pull off nothing happened, the car wouldnt start. Unbeknown to her it appears she's burnt out the starter motor (due to her repeatedly turning the ignition to start it).
Anyway I come along, and the start stop system failure message is on the dash, and when I turn the ignition, the cars sounds like its trying to start but nothing else, it's not the usual battery sound (clicking).
The AA eventually arrive, he tries to jump start it with a booster battery nothing, then with a running start it jumps into life. I drive it to my local garage and the performance is absolutely fine, stop at garage and try the ignition again, and it's back to sqaure one it won't start.
Roll forward yesterday, pop into the garage they tested the battery (which was 3 months old) and it was reading fine, they couldnt jump start it with batteries/hooked up to another car and again could only move it by bump starting it. The mechanic had a quick look and said it'll need a new starter motor which I'd guessed, but i'm not convinced this is the only issue, would I be better keeping it at my local garage to sort or take it to my nissan dealership (not under warranty). I'm desperate for the car to be sorted by 5/7/19 as going on holiday, and my garage has said the starter motor wont be here for 5 days as coming from europe.
cheers in advance
