Start/Stop System Failure, Won't start

Morning

Ths is relating to a 2014 Qashqai 1.5 diesel

Got a feeling this will have been covered before, but I'm struggling to find a post replicating my exact scenario.

Two days ago whilst my wife was sriving home, she stopped at red lights and the start/stop system kicked in, apon applying the clutch to pull off nothing happened, the car wouldnt start. Unbeknown to her it appears she's burnt out the starter motor (due to her repeatedly turning the ignition to start it).
Anyway I come along, and the start stop system failure message is on the dash, and when I turn the ignition, the cars sounds like its trying to start but nothing else, it's not the usual battery sound (clicking).
The AA eventually arrive, he tries to jump start it with a booster battery nothing, then with a running start it jumps into life. I drive it to my local garage and the performance is absolutely fine, stop at garage and try the ignition again, and it's back to sqaure one it won't start.

Roll forward yesterday, pop into the garage they tested the battery (which was 3 months old) and it was reading fine, they couldnt jump start it with batteries/hooked up to another car and again could only move it by bump starting it. The mechanic had a quick look and said it'll need a new starter motor which I'd guessed, but i'm not convinced this is the only issue, would I be better keeping it at my local garage to sort or take it to my nissan dealership (not under warranty). I'm desperate for the car to be sorted by 5/7/19 as going on holiday, and my garage has said the starter motor wont be here for 5 days as coming from europe.

cheers in advance

This is a new one on me, and I can't really help other than the obvious.

If it's a local garage and you trust them from previous experience - I would suggest that you might let them do the work.
It'll certainty be cheaper than at a Nissan dealership.
They sound confident that they have diagnosed the fault.
I imagine that a Nissan dealer will have to go through the same testing routine as your local garage, possibly adding extra time.

If the starter is stuck it won't turn when you jump it. Bumping it moves the flywheel thus the starter motor, hence why it probably does start then.

Can't see that it should take 5 days to get a new starter motor though. 1 hours labour at most.

Makes sensem I'm just concerned that the if it was my wife that knackered the starter motor constantly turning the ignition when it had died, why wouldnt it start back up in the first place.

There saying 5 days as it's having to come from Germany, no one local is stocking it.

5 days? Perhaps they are trying to avoid UK dealer rip off?

What I know of starter motors that are continually cranked (well almost) is that they'll flatten a battery normally. And still good for another day.

Where they often used to fail is with the starter relay that threw the starter motor dog (cog) into the flywheel toothed ring to rotate the engine. These are DC motors that sometimes need the commutator brushes changing and the dog mechanism can get a bit iffy. Either clean it up and change brushes or get new...likely new option is better these days.

I have this same problem. Even though I have changed the starter motor to after maker for the reg, the main dealer says I need a Nissan one and glow plugs. How did your issue get resolved.
