Qashqai Model: Mk.1 Qashqai Facelift - J10b (2010–2013)

I own a very much loved 2012 1.5 diesel Qashqai - and it's getting all the usual problems with worn suspension joints and the rear discs need replacing in a few thousand miles. Also I've been told by the local main dealer that the turbo is on the way out. Total to fix everything is a shade over two grand.

So - do I get the work done and if I do how much longer is the rest of the engine likely to last? It's done 123000 miles so far.

Welcome your thoughts, but before all the technical answers about doing it your self I have the mechanical aptitude of the Budweiser frog.

Thanks

Beyond Economic Repair (BER). Measure against what you might get for it if it was fault free.

I always consider a turbo engine to be a stressed engine compared to non turbo. Sticking a new turbo on an old-ish small engine doesn't make sense to me. Its a big risk and involves much expensive labour.

Perhaps someone here has experienced a similar turbo change?

It sounds like you are being encouraged to spend £2000 on a car which can't be worth much more than £2000.
To me it sounds like a great project for a very competent DIY mechanic (no labour costs).

I would be tempted to discover what it's worth as a trade-in before making a commitment.
"We buy any car" tend to give optimistic trade-in prices knowing that they can then beat the money down by finding the smallest fault.
However, it might be a place to start to find the value of the car, without going into a dealer (new, main or second-hand).

I understand that a reliable car is invaluable but measure that against the fact that if the turbo goes, it's suddenly worthless.

Good Luck

For a valuation I’d shun we buy any car as a previous post says they DO slap down agreed price on examination allowing nothing for fair wear and tear. Create an account on autotrader, add your car and it’ll give you a private sale and trade in valuation of course based on it being without major faults so then deduct cost of repair and it’ll guide you as to a value

Thanks all. I'm kind of resigned to saying goodbye to the old girl. I'm NOT going anywhere near webuyanycar - they managed to turn a valuation of £700 to £80 the last time I tried them. I'd rather scrap it. but like I said - thanks, you've helped me make up my mind.

I feel I need to clarify.
My idea of approaching We Buy Any Car was to discover the low value without having to go through the rigmarole of calling into a multitude of dealers.
I would never advise anyone to sell to/through them.

Yep..I surrendered my BMW 525i on an approx £2000 bill to the scrappy. That was back axle suspension and clear coat peeling. Engine was an uncomplicated non turbo unit and very smooth runner (140k). After some 5 years was still in mourning. It was the paintwork that really p*ssed me off!

It was 1987 model which likely had a value of about £400 at the time.

Two ways to look at this, if you spend the £2000 you will probably have a dependable car, turbos don't stress the engine they help with the fuel burn. If you buy another car , unless it's new or from a main dealer, you maybe buying problems. At the end of the day. it maybe how much you like the car and if a replacement car is "as good" practically. That said, my last car was changed at 130000 miles for my present QQ which I bought from a dealer with 2 years service and warranty.
Past cars Mercedes B Class, S Class, E Class Estate, E Class Coupe, G Wagen, 260E interspersed with Peugeot 406 and Audi Coupe.
