Its a "hidden page"....stupid Nissan:

Only ignition ON...no motor running needed. Although you can start it later and see a rise in volts from the alternator up to about 14volts when driving for at least 30 mins.

On the centre consul Press Setup and keep pressed

Turn the ENTER knob left and then right..repeat keeping above button pressed. Two handed job really....practice needed perhaps

You should see new buttons on the screen.

Press System State followed by Running System Status when it shows...Battery volts will be in the new Service menu. Mine shows 11.65 volts now which is risky and its near time for the charger in this cold weather. I drove my car 15 miles yesterday with no Start/Stops (only two separate Starts) and that voltage is not good for me. I have jump leads also...thick AA ones in their own small bag. Oh..and a fully charged Bosch battery in the garage. Our earlier Ford Focus was a cuss in this respect...short journeys again...

Demo here:

That’s very useful advice so thanks. I wonder why Nissan don’t detail this. So you say your battery was showing 11.65 volts - is anything below the normal 12 volts suspect then? I will give that a go tomorrow and see what shows. As for the short journeys/ cold starts, I suppose taking it for a longer run every week or so might help? Any guidance would be welcome. I just drive the car and don’t necessarily understand it!

Well, using the hidden menu, I've discovered that our voltage is a bit low.

Hopefully the new battery will be home by the end of the week.

You are in pretty good shape at 12,45v and I'm getting away with it at 11.65v. My Batt is about a year older than yours. Get really bothered at 11 volts. These volts are dropping slowly all the time and thats a rule of mine.

The page you're viewing is for mechanics really.

Self Checking:
You can start the car and then select that screen. Drive with it like that and periodically watch...it should get to about 14v. The test is to get it to about 14v, get home and stop the engine. Some hours later (say 3 hours) check that screen again keeping engine off. Write down its value say per 3 or 6 hours so you get an indication of its behaviour while idle and with your driving routine.

Now you know what to look for.

Some of us here have suspicions about current cars...electronically loaded. Their behaviour when ignition is off (sleeping) being of concern and they do periodically wake up to check stuff....security for one. We have little info on that but what they do to a battery as regards consumption should be very minimal/low. Stop/Start to some us is simply a needless burden on a battery and you'll know you cannot disable it permanently. Its a curse!

As I said I have jump leads and a spare battery in the garage. Its getting colder and starting demands more from a battery. Setup like this I am a couple of steps in front of the problem. Car manufacturers and dealers are of little help. Nissan gets around it with the 3 year warranty regular service and RAC recovery and thats as good as it gets.

gvmdaddy wrote: Sun Oct 27, 2019 11:26 am Had my first battery failure around three months ago. Failed to turn over and lots of clicking and flashing of all warning lights on the dashboard. Recovery attended and got me going. Worked fine since, though stop/start was more intermittent. Failed again about ten days ago. Recovery attended again. Got the car going again and gave it a good run to charge the battery. I decided to book in for a service and to have the battery replaced at the same time. The soonest I could get the service for, or the new battery is still another two weeks away. Battery failed one week after I booked for a replacement. Decided enough was enough and called out recovery again. Started the car and the recovery guy offered to follow me to Halfords to get the battery replaced. An EFB was £115 or the AGM was £157. Both carry a 5year guarantee. Opted for the AGM. Halfords wanted £25 to fit and reset the charging software. Recovery guy was still with me and he said to just pay for the battery and he would fit it for free. He did it in around 5 minutes. So, it’s a Halfords AGM 096 battery, with a 5 year guarantee, what’s not to like!
Ps I had a web chat with my local Nissan dealership to ask if they used EFB or AGM batteries for replacements and they declined to answer, suggesting I go in and speak to them in person. Why?

That’s another confusing situation.
Go to some battery suppliers and they recommend AGM. Go to another they say EFB.
So who do you believe?

Dave, I have mentioned this before but I raised this question with our Sales Guy and he opened up the Bonnet of a New Showroom Tekna + ProPILOT and this is what was sitting there an “EFB” - Dave 😁

I know it says the recommended one but why also show a AGM version as well?
Go onto other sites and all they show is AGM?

RVW, take a read of this it might explain the reason AGM / EFB - hope it helps - Dave 😉

“For this reason, only EFB or AGM batteries should be installed in vehicles with automatic stop-start systems. If an AGM battery is already installed in the vehicle, it must always be replaced with another AGM battery.”

Why do I need a special battery for the automatic start-stop system? :
