Hi All,
Looking for a bit of advice re my new 2nd hand car purchased recently.
Love the car however, checked the battery the other day and it was reading 11.5v, after a decent run it did rise to 12.4v.
Anyway my gut feeling is telling me that the battery is on the way out.
My car still has 5 months warranty left on the 3yrs manu.
The car was bought from macklin motors Nissan Glasgow.
It appears that I don't have the Nissan assistance with this car as the Nissan dealers have not serviced the car.
I have taken out green flag breakdown.
Thoughts guys!
Thanks.
Regards
Bobby

Bobby, Batteries problems on the QQ is an old old problem and still exists on the newer model. If the Battery is still original why not ask a Nissan Dealer and see what the comment is, it might work as you still have a Guarantee but no Service Stamps. Asking costs nothing !. If as you say you have another Breakdown Ins. then give them a try.
If you need the facts on the Nissan Battery go into “Search” you will find reems of facts there - Best of Luck Dave

Coincidentally I checked my battery over the last two days (each day)....11.65v and then 11.5v. No driving in between. I don't do very long journeys and the battery is almost 2 years old...FIAMM. Its getting colder....
It was about 11.2v last Feb when the battery was 14 months old. All Starts have been good. I don't do Stop/Start.
12.5v is the static acceptable state of a car battery....on the bench. Question is how long will it hold that state and with modern electronically loaded cars what might be leaching it, by design or otherwise?
Rough Guide:
To test it you need to charge it and leave it for 24 hours and monitor the speed of the voltage drop. It'll likely charge to 13+ volts.
If it gets to about 11.5v in 24hrs its not too bad. If its below 11v then the battery is degraded...either a cell is defective or some cells over all.
Alternatively:
Take it to an Auto Elect and get a drop test done. They'll test the charge and discharge capability harshly.
I have jump leads and a spare battery standing by and Scotland is of course much colder for longer than mid England here.
