Has anyone used/tried a roof bag (not box!) at all? I have the glass sunroof and am wondering if it's going to be strong enough to hold a bag. It will only contain bags of clothing, nothing too heavy or bulky. Is the glass roof known to be stronger or weaker than it's metal counterpart?

Any thoughts?

Thanks

There are reports of cracks - though not from people putting bags on there. And it's not cheap! And it's not covered by "glass cover".

It does make you wonder how safe some of these “Stuck” Panoramic Roofs are. MB have just issued a “Recall” in the US for Older Models (degraded Ahesive possibly) - Dave 😏

German carmaker Daimler AG will recall 744,000 of its 2001-2011 Mercedes-Benz vehicles in the US because the sunroof glass panel could detach and pose a hazard. The recall covers more two dozen vehicles from C-Class, CLK-Class, CLS-Class and E-Class model lines. The automaker said the bonding between the glass panel and the sliding frame might not meet specifications and could lead to sunroofs detaching.

I have the panoramic sunroof and the car has roof rails fitted.
Couldn't you get some generic bars to fit and put your roof bag on them ???

I do have rails too, but I just don't have the space to store the bars and box. The bags fold down quite nicely.

Even with bars, the bags still sit directly on the roof. The bag is then tethered to the bars.

I get the "no storage room" dilemma.
But the bars must surely take a good percentage of the weight ?
However, bars and a tray (attached to the bars) would take the whole weight of the bag (which probably isn't much).
All components flatish and shouldn't take up much space.

Failing that, I guess it's down to taking a chance that nothing goes wrong.

Did you decide whether to get one or not? I'd honestly never heard of these until reading your post and I think they're a brilliant idea. We do a lot of camping and take allsorts of stuff. We easily filled the 495 litre boot of my old Insignia plus the rear footwells and rear seats, so only having 430 litres capacity in the Qashqai could mean that we can't fit it all in. Roof boxes are OK but expensive and permanently rigid which means we'd either have to leave it constantly fixed to the roof or take up half of the living area in the tent.
It would be great to hear what you decide to do and if you do get one, what your opinion is? Can I ask which one you're looking at as they seem to for around £50 on Amazon?
Lee.
