I have recently purchased a 17 plate Nissan Qashqai 1.6 dCi Tenka 5 door hatchback, to release the handbrake I was advised to put my foot on the brake and push the handbrake off, I used to have a renault with this system, with that car to release the handbrake I just accelerated away, can I do this with the qashqai or do I need to push the footbrake? I apreciate the manual says foot on brake, also, can I switch off this system of the engine stopping when I stop at traffic lights? all help and advice appreciated

Interesting, I have a 2014 auto with CVT box and my handbrake applies automatically when I push the engine off button, with or without my seatbelt on. All the warning buzzers go off, but I can move the car without the seatbelt on
