Today the car went to go see my local garage so he could have a look/listen to our issue before it goes off to Nissan for a diognostic. Having looked through the engine he is “fairly confident” that the quality of the current oil is the issue and an oil change should make a difference. For a fraction of the price of the nissan diognostic i thought it was worth a shot! So we get the car back Thursday and I will let you know how we get on!

How many miles approx has it done on current oil.
I had a BMW (timing chain) petrol engine do ad hoc clacking for about 5 secs on start up from cold-ish. Not often but embarrassing. I put it down to oil starvation to valve gear. Or a weird timing event. I always DIY oil changed and not to recommended schedules...quite. Engine was never a problem though up to 135k miles when I scrapped the car.

Evening all! Just a quick update.. the oils change made absolutely .......... zero change! The noise is as loud as ever! It looks like it will need to head into Nissan for a more expensive but hopefully more successful diagnosis.
