Fuel economy gauge on 2012 1.6dci puredrive

Got some much appreciated advice prior to taking the plunge on my first ever Qashqai today, she is sitting on my drive for the first time tonight and I am very happy.

Just on fuel economy I got a bit of a fright when I had a play just after taking delivery as the fuel economy gauge prior to me driving anywhere had a read out of 27mpg which shocked me a bit as I can't imagine the circumstances in which this car even round town would register so low?

Anyway after a reset and about 20 miles of ordinary urban driving, this evening, I am getting a reading of 45mpg which is much more like I was hoping for.

Just wondering, based on experience, how accurate this gauge actually is? Is my 45mpg reading likely to be very roughly correct?

Not a direct comparison since my car was a J11 petrol but I found the onboard computer very accurate. Over 10,300 miles the gauge was on average only pessimistic by 0.4. Curiously top-ups 3, 5 and 7 were most pessimistic and it settled down after that with top-up 27 being most optimistic by 0.9mpg and top-up 27 being most pessimistic at -1.2mpg ,

My Fabia previously was 22% out (actually an uncorrectable firmware issue ) and my present car is 4.2mpg on average too optimistic.

I have the 1.6 diesel auto and the gauge on economy 2 shows 40.8mpg yet economy 1 rarely drops below 45mpg which is more the figure I get between top ups with a best over 60mpg. Mine is a 2014 J11

Thanks Gloucester and Qashowner

Sounds very promising based on what you say
