Panoramic Roof max cap 50kg? Halfords advice...

Hi there,
Just got back from a trip to Halfords who advise they cannot fit a roof rack because of the limit of 50KG on some Qashqai models that have a panoramic roof. We looked up our license plate and some products appear on Halfords website meaning I think we can safely fit a roof rack and case on it - we think?

The very helpful Halfords gent said for us to check the Qashqai forums to double check - so here we are.

Can you please point us to any historic threads on this? (I had a search and couldn't find any that specifically talk about the 50 KG limit...)

We have a 2011 Qashqai so presumably Mark 1 with facelift?

Thanks in advance for your help

Welcome to this forum!

I don't recall hearing that before.

The handbook I have suggests 75kg - but doesn't refer to the panoramic roof. Have you checked there?

Amusingly it's exactly the same in the 2014> manual - by which I mean even the same drawing!

After reading several comments on the Web it appears as Gloucester has mentioned on the J10 & J11 that 75Kgs appears to be the limit, also stated in the early J11Manual. There are also comments regarding the Panoramic Roof in that the Load Bearing Areas are through the Roof Rails Screwed to the Steel Body Construction not through the Glass Roof - Dave πŸ˜‰

As above, nothing should be touching the panoramic glass roof.
The weight is taken by the metal bars which are attached to the steel rails which are bolted to the steel body.

Maybe Halfords have a policy of being super cautious ?

I sometimes think "check the handbook" seems a little rude when said in response to an enquiry but in this case it might be the best answer because it’s what Nissan say !
