Hi all.

First time QQ (future) owner here. Just put a deposit down on a VB '19 Tekna 1.3 DiG-T, should be collecting next week. I also put a deposit down on a PB '19 Tekna but decided I prefer the VB colour. Both have the same miles and same price.

First time I've owned a vehicle that's worth more than £1000. Had to purchase a second car due to a baby on the way, I thought I should get something a little larger than our current Micra!

Thank you.

One question I have is regarding Apple CarPlay. I’ve read that only the official Apple cable is supported, and CarPlay doesn’t work with an aftermarket cable.

Can you confirm this or is it not strictly true?

I don’t think it’s entirely true but others say differently.
In my car I use an generic cable - it's a black braided cable, hopefully more robust as it’s always in the car, permanently plugged into the USB socket in the armrest.
Also - I start the car, pick up the phone, unlock the phone, plug the cable into the phone.
This little routine takes a few seconds but worth it if you are in the car for a while (like my hour drive to work before I retired).
Following that routine, for me, CarPlay works seamlessly every time.
It's seems to be a very minor quirk of the interface between Nissan and Apple.

What seems to be a minor quirk?

Thanks for your detailed answer. I’ll buy an official apple cable to test on delivery day. Once I know CP is working with the genuine cable, I’ll try the unbranded cable and if that works I’ll return the genuine.

Does it not seem to connect if not done explicitly in that order?

It’s just something silly I do to be sure it works EVERY time.
I’m sure it’s just superstitious nonsense - when you get your car you can work it out for yourself

Welcome to this forum.

Lots of cars have problems connecting phones to CarPlay or Android Auto. I have found choice of lead to be the key thing, and in my case with Android Auto a short aftermarket one is better than the original Samsung one.
