Alarm time length

Good morning all,
I'm Dave, I collected my Qashqai yesterday morning and am really happy with it. It's a 19 plate and my one concern is, the alarm sounds for a very long time after locking, is this normal?
I live in an area where there are school aged students (children) and I will be arriving home late at night fairly often and with the alarm sounding for so long, I don't want to upset the neighbours. Can the length of time of the alarm be shortened?
Cheers

Welcome to the house of fun Dave ;)

I haven’t heard of a problem like this on the forum before.
My alarm doesn’t sound when I lock my car.
Nor did it sound upon locking my previous QQ.

And, by the way, I don’t think it should sound when you lock the car.

Someone more technically minded will be along soon, I’m sure, with some ideas

Good Luck

Thanks Mike GC,
I have to admit, it's not something I've noticed on any other Qashqai's before when they've parked in carparks etc. Fingers crossed for that someone who will be able to help :)

Don't think we have enough info on the NATS alarm system to determine a specific problem. However:

Can you switch off the internal movement alarm before you exit and lock. Then exit and lock again. Its a small button on the internal rear view mirror. Might have a green indicator light there that signals on or off?

The alarm is only armed 20 seconds after the car is locked. Check each door, boot and bonnet is closed properly, ie open and shut each. Once triggered, the alarm sounds for 28 seconds. If it's still not right it'll need a trip to the dealers.

Hi Pandjh,
That is the problem... an alarm sounding for 28 seconds!
I accept that some might say its not that long for the security of a new(ish) car but I'm thinking of neighbours and those that could / would be asleep when I get home late. I know it would annoy me... as it does already, 28 seconds 'is' a long time.

I agree 28s is a long time for it to sound, the problem you have I think is that is should not be sounding just by you locking the car, mine doesn't do so, nor do others. You look to have a fault. The only time mine sounded like this was when I forgot to fully close the bonnet.

Thanks for that Phil, I've just got back from dealership and nobody there could help! Will get a call from their technician tomorrow. BUT, I will look at bonnet etc and see if it helps.

Phil, you are a STAR. The noise is gone :D I opened and closed the bonnet and hay-presto sorted.

If the alarm doesn't wake you up, it's not a very good system. That's why it's called an alarm, it is supposed to wake you for you to see if there are any intruders. I suppose f it upsets the neighbours, you can always turn it off and not lock the car :D
