Qashqai Model: Mk.1 Qashqai Facelift - J10b (2010–2013)

Post by collywobble »

Hi from North Devon...we have just bought our first Qashqai which is our first Nissan too. 2012 1.5 dCi N-tec+ with only 48k on the clock. Very impressed so far but a little confused as to whether this car has a DPF fitted. Is there a simple way to find out as 'Google' isn't much help and the V5C doesn't have this information apart from the CO2 emissions being 137g/km.

Welcome to this forum.

Yes it does have a DPF - does the handbook not cover periodic regeneration?

Here's a few of the topics mentioning DPF elsewhere on here

The handbook is dated October 2011 and makes no mention of a DPF apart from in the index where it refers you to page 5-5 which doesn't exist! According to the diagrammatic drawings of the engine on page 8-8 it is Euro 5 but the V5C doesn't show the euro status....My main concern is that the service that the dealer had done on it prior to us purchasing the car (he said that the oil was about £60 and was C3) - they don't do any servicing themselves but have a local garage do it - in North Devon they have a phrase 'that'll do' and I am concerned that if they have used C3 spec oil it isn't low SAPS and will b****r up the DPF! I have run diesels for years now - our mobile skip is a 21 year old Astra G with 118k on the clock and a chain driven cam shaft so you know when it is on the way out because of the rattle! I only ever use branded fuel, top quality oil, and good tyres on my cars....we had a Saab 9-5 2.2 diesel which we got rid of at at 186k.

Here's an extract from the October 2011 brochure:

EDIT - the technical section that I'm abstracting from is actually dated September 2011.

I have just been out, turned the ignition on then and started the car and the DPF warning light in the rev counter was not illuminated....I assume that if a DPF is fitted then this would light up as the engine checks are done before starting?

The handbook does say:

"M9R engine only:
When the ignition switch is turned to the ON position, the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) warning light illuminates for a few seconds and then goes out. This indicates that the system is operational
"

Yours isn't that engine so the warning light may not come on.

The warning light may have blown.

The DPF may have been taken out.

OR you may have a car that was built earlier but was sitting in storage for a long time? But the September 2010 brochure also shows a DPF was fitted at that time, so is that really likely?
