Voice activation and windows.
Hello.
I have a Samsung s7 edge, this is how I use Voice Activation.
1st step : Phone is set up for S voice, if you you say "Hi Galaxy" phone will ask you want you want to do.
2nd step : phone is set up for Smart stay ( this will unlock phone when connected to bluetooth of car)
when I hold down call button for 4 seconds, I get a message on phone screen saying unable to use S voice when connected to bluetooth headset and unlocks phone.
Nissan connect now shows "Voice Recognition Active" and music/radio mutes, then I say "Hi galaxy call wife home/mobile" and the phone displays the number and calls, I think Nissan connect uses the Qashqai microphone to send the command to the phone.
On my previous Qashqai J10, when I pressed the call button it would launch S voice, but would use the phone microphone to recognize what I was saying, if I had radio on or window open it would nut understand me.
I don't use S Voice just for calls, I use it to send text messages and launch apps or google maps.

Moongoose, on the J11B the window buttons will be illuminated and can be operated with a one touch remote - Dave

Have you tried a different phone. Just to make sure it's not your phone. I normally hold down the call button till radio mutes and it shows voice activation enabled on the connect screen.
