knocking sound left rear - no obvious reason

My 2011 Qashqai 1.6dci has a knocking sound coming from the left rear as if a tailpipe is loose, or some part of the underneath. I am not a technically minded person, but maybe another owner has experienced this. If so you advice would be very welcome.
